Geneva Troop 5

Pratt's Wayne Woods, April 15-16, 2004

This was the first time our troop has camped at this forest prserve. It is located in Wayne, just a mile and half or so by trail from Scoutmaster Don Staley's home, so Saturday afternoon we walked to his home/farm and our camout ended there.
Beautiful spring evening.
So much help building the fire. Not so much help cleaning the dishes.
Scoutmaster Don Staley has better luck talking to this piece of wood than talking to the scouts.
William and Jason.
Eric, William, and Rob.
Jason. Note the large collection of firewood in the background. By morning there was only a small haldful left. Truth be told, I think the scoutmaster is to blame! The man likes his fires!
Derek, Eric, and Hyrum.
Ben.
Eric discovers the BSA Hot spark. Hours of entertainment.
The next morning found Ben's shoes and clothes up a tree.
Retrieving Ben's clothes. Ben was a good sport about it.
Eggs-a-plenty.
William...here we go again.
More eggs.
Nice landing, and you didn't break the yoke!
Content to let the scoutmaster do the cooking.
Still more eggs?
Ben.
Jason and William.
Cameron and Ben.
A little syrup and these eggs will be fine.
Jason.
Last photo of Robert for a long time. He went for a little walk and forgot to tell someone when/where he was going...a minor panic ensued.
I like Aldi's corned beef hash while on a campout. The most fun - and fat - you can have for just 99 cents!
Half a cord of oak and man those coals are hot!
Getting a little thin on top and not so much so in the middle.
Let's all stand around and watch Ben make toast.
"Heck-o in Mexico?"
Gotcha.
How's that toast coming along, Ben?
Huddle.
William won't be fooled again.
William will need to have this jug of cider surgically removed from his face.
Oh good! It comes off!
Boyhood fascination with tent poles.
They started to break camp but got distracted. Go figure.
Jason in the tent.
Hyrum practices his karate.
If he sticks with it, he's gonna be good someday.
You see! Already he can chop through tent poles!
Tag! No one can catch Jason until he trees himself.
Boys can find high adventure in a good tree.
William and the fake grimace he inherited from his father.
Let's try breaking camp again...
This could take awhile...
Derek is distracted. Boys can also find high adventure in a knife and a stick.
Hiking to the scoutmaster's home.
Eric found a bobber. More high adventure...
One of three quarries-turned-lakes at this forest preserve.
It's a beautiful spring day.
Boys can ALWAYS find high adventure in water!
Cameron has the most unusual use of a bungie cord I have even seen. (I'd need a bigger bungie.)
One of many horse jumps.
Jason, William, and Cameron.
The gang. Front: Jason, William, Cameron, Robert (found!), Eric, Derek. Back: Rob, Don, Hyrum.
Robert tries a barrel roll.
Jason tries a barrel roll.
Careful! Don't spill the Gatorade!
Didn't spill a drop. It's all good...
