Geneva Troop 5

Making and Using Hobo Stoves - September 26, 2001

We made hobo stoves for our scout meeting. Use a #10 can for the stove. Punch large holes around half of the base of the can to provide sufficient ventilation. Add a long wire handle to the stove so it can be lifted, turned, or moved. Use old fencing for the grill. (I recommend fencing with 2" x 4" holes. You want the holes in the fencing to be sufficiently large to fed the fire without removing the grill.) After making the stoves, we each cooked ramen soup.

This is probably the first fire Joseph Larson has ever built where he didn't use insect spray as tinder!
That soup is hot! That spoon is going to melt!

Robbie uses a ten dollar pan on a ten cent stove!
